Happy Birthday Ashraf

This past weekend, we had the privilege of celebrating our dear friend Ashraf’s birthday with him. Living away from his friends and family in Egypt, and because he has become like family to us, we wanted to make the day feel extra special for him.

So, we took him to one of our favorite palaces, Hampton Court. The palace began as Henry VIII’s hunting lodge, but it has seen many sophisticated, royal changes over the centuries. As it is now basically 3 period palaces (Tudor, Stuart, and Georgian) in 1, we can easily spend most of the day exploring the elegant rooms and lovely, manicured gardens. We also packed a picnic lunch with festively decorated cupcakes for dessert which completely surprised Ashraf.

Ken and Ashraf had fun cutting up at the palace by imaging themselves as the various monarchs, sharing how they would rule the country, and basically playing king for the day. We finished the celebration at one of our favorite restaurants, the Texas Embassy. When Ashraf shared that this was his best birthday ever, we counted the day a success and felt honored to have shared in it.
