We always enjoy time with friends and family, but when that time takes place on our very own doorstep, it becomes even more special. Ken’s dad, Robert, and his wife, Michele, spent a few days in the area during their vacation in Europe. While in Brussels, we enjoyed lunch on the Grand Place and dinner at one of our neighborhood restaurants. We even introduced them to Speculoo ice cream which is a true Belgian treat.

We spent part of the weekend with them in Amsterdam, and we all agreed on a visit to the Van Gogh Museum. Several friends told us that if we only had time for one art museum in Amsterdam, this was the one to see. It did not disappoint. Not only did the museum display lovely works of art, but they presented the paintings in an interesting, story-telling way. Each step gave us further insight to the life of Van Gogh and an understanding as to the changes in his painting styles. Excellent! To top off our time together, we took a relaxing cruise along the beautiful canals of the city. What a nice way to catch up with those you love!
