Twins Take on Europe

I said goodbye yesterday to my twin brother, Jeff, and his wife, Kara, after spending a couple of fun filled weeks together traveling around Europe. We began the journey in London where I showed them all of the main tour spots like Tower of London, Windsor Castle, and even a behind the scenes look at a Shakespeare play at the Globe Theater. Ken joined us on the weekend for more sightseeing, shows, and a traditional afternoon teatime, and by the time we left, Jeff and Kara had completely fallen for all of the city’s quaintness and charm.

Ken was able to take a week off, so after our time in London, the 4 of us loaded the car and headed to parts of Belgium, Germany, and Austria. We spent time visiting some of the castle related to Luwig II of Bavaria, one of which gave the inspiration for the Disneyland castle. We strolled along the charming canals of Bruges, walked the ramparts of the medieval wall in Rothenburg, and browsed the wood carvers’ shops in the Black Forest. We had an emotionally moving day touring the concentration camp at Dachau as we read the stories of those who lost their lives during WWII and saw the brutal conditions at the camp. Between a string ensemble concert in the fortress high above the city and visiting the movie locations around the town, the hills of Salzburg truly came alive with the sound of music!

Of course, no trip is complete without sampling the local specialties and we did our best to try all we could…fish & chips in London, chocolate & waffles in Belgium, schnitzel & apple strudel in Germany and Austria…my mouth is watering just thinking of all of these tasty treats! I have posted some pictures from the trip which you can access by clicking the ‘photo albums’ link in the box on the right and clicking ‘Jeff & Kara Europe’ album.
