It's a Small World After All
Although the year at IMD proved quite challenging, especially for Ken, it also left us with a community of friends who we can call on throughout the world. Some of our favorite memories during our time in London have come from time with friends, several of whom we knew from our year in Switzerland. Not only have I reconnected with one of the partners from that year, but we have actually developed a much deeper friendship over many afternoon tea conversations. We have discovered our shared love of history, and having grown up in Serbia, she has such interesting thoughts and insights to share related to Europe's history. Ken and I have also enjoyed meeting up with a couple whose friendship really took off after we traveled to Malaysia and met his family. Since both he and his wife have Asian backgrounds, they know just where to go to find the best Chinese, Malay, or Indian foods. With them, we share a love of London’s theater, and we are constantly filling each other in on the “must see” shows. We also enjoy bouncing ideas off of each other related to life and its direction in our lives. Good friends are helpful for things like that. Since London often sees people come through on business, we get even more excuses and opportunities to get together as an IMD group. Ken has had “guys night out” with some of the IMD chaps who live in the London area or travel here regularly, and we have shared in some fun IMD group dinners as well. I always feel so blessed and grateful for that year in Switzerland for so many reasons, but especially the life long friendships that help to make a huge city like London feel like home.
