Summer Sun = Family Fun

Summer provides the best opportunity for us to spend time with family in the U.S. Much of Europe’s business shuts down during the busy travel season of July and August while at the same time, kids in the U.S. have a long break during the summer months. Because of this, Ken and I plan an annual trip to Texas, carving out time to see both of our families as well as several of our good friends.

We just returned from this year’s trip, and the highlights included power shopping (my treat), shooting at the gun range (Ken’s treat…after his eye surgery in February, an extra treat due to near perfect rounds), swimming at pools in Dallas and Austin (treat for both of us since hot days are minimal in northern Europe), and meeting up with dear friends.

We even managed visits to the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas chronicling the events of JFK’s assassination and a special exhibition on the life of Walter Cronkite at the LBJ library in Austin…both places gave interesting insights and fascinating details.

Of course, no trip would be complete without lots of “playtime” with our nieces and nephews, and as they raced past the crowd of people to jump into our arms and embrace us at the airport, we knew that they felt just as excited to see us as we were to see them.
