Musical Magnificence

One of the most awe inspiring places to attend a concert is the Royal Albert Hall. Its regal red and gold colors fill the gigantic, oval shaped hall with breath-taking majesty. As it takes us less than 10 minutes to walk there, the venue provides a wonderful evening out for us during our weekends in London.

Our latest concerts centered on two different themes. The first, ‘The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: The Music of Bond’, played the theme songs to all 23 James Bond movies. Hosted by Honor Blackman (aka Pussy Galore from “Goldfinger”), the evening told the story from beginning to present about the intriguing path of Ian Fleming and his famous spy character, James Bond. Despite her age, Ms. Blackman remains a radiant beauty and entertained us with dazzling class…truly “Diamonds Are Forever”. As Ken and I are both Bond junkies (my addiction comes thanks to my dad), we felt that from our box seats, we had an absolute “View to a Kill”. We loved it so much that we would eagerly attend again…after all, “You Only Live Twice”.

The other concert, ‘The Best of Broadway’, showcased some of the most endearing and memorable songs from many of the top Broadway musicals including ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Les Miserable’, ‘Hairspray’, and ‘Cats’. The orchestra and guest singers provided a ‘Wicked’ performance! ‘Mama Mia’, what a sound! Knowing most of the songs by heart, Ken and I had to restrain ourselves from singing along as the ‘Guys and Dolls’ took us on a musical journey in true ‘Cabaret’ style.
