Distant Cousin : Close Connection

About 17 years ago, I introduced Ken to my mom’s cousin and his wife. They live in Lubbock and offered for us to not only take advantage of their swimming pool during the hot West Texas summer, but they also let us use their gazebo for the backdrop of our engagement photos. I had the chance to see them after numerous years away when I made a stop at Lubbock for several events of my book tour back in December. At one of the signings, they brought their grandson, Blain, who attends Texas Tech and was in the process of planning a summer trip across Europe. After several email exchanges, we made plans to take him and his friend, Kyle, to our favorite neighborhood pizzeria. We told them that this pizza, made by a true Italian, is the best outside of Italy, and they actually thought of changing their schedule to include Italy after such a tasty indulgence! The four of us shared a fun evening talking about travels, life in Lubbock, and of course, family. The fact that the Meador family is so tightly knit means that a visit from even a fourth cousin across the ocean seems a natural treat!
