Home on the Range

What do you show someone who has traveled from a land full of ancient culture and some of the oldest documented history on earth? That was part of our quest as our Egyptian “brother”, Ashraf, met us in Texas where we presented to him our home stomping ground.
And what better place to go than San Antonio where much of our state’s foundations and important historical sites are found. Along with remembering the Alamo and exploring a couple of the other similar missions from that time period, we made our way along the beautiful and bustling River Walk for local eats and a ride on the river.
We took him through the Texas Hill Country to see the quaint town of Fredericksburg, tour LBJ’s ranch, and have dinner at a Marble Fall’s brewery restaurant which a childhood friend owns.
Of course, in order for Ashraf to truly understand our Texas, he had to spend time with part of our friends and families. He already has a sweet relationship with my mom and considers her his “American Mom”, and as he had previously met my twin brother, Jeff, and his family, hanging out with them was a piece of cake.
Everyone else gave him a hearty “howdy” and showed him that things really are bigger in Texas including warm welcomes.
