Ken
& I chose San Diego as the place to ring in 2014, the biggest reason due to
Texas Tech playing in the Holiday bowl against Arizona State. Having lived outside of the U.S. for many
years, we felt lucky just to catch our college teams play through the computer. The last live game we attended took place
a couple of months before our move to Europe…9 years ago. Needless to say, the fact that Tech landed in
a bowl game just 2 hours from our home thrilled us, even if predictions for our
guys looked bleak. The game, though,
proved electrifying as Tech held the lead the entire game, and sitting directly
behind the band meant that we never lacked spirit in our section of the
stands. The added bonus came the next
day when we had brunch with my 4th cousin and his friend who both work
with the Tech football program. They
visited us in Brussels 2 years ago, so we enjoyed catching up with them again.
Since we found ourselves in San Diego on the 30th
for the bowl game, we decided to stay another night to celebrate New Year’s
Eve. Our festive evening of dining and
dancing found us at the Hotel del Coronado, a true Victorian gem built in 1888. The night began with special entertainers &
unique champagne “fountains” and ended with a live band playing everything from
the Rat Pack to Disco. Between the 5
mouth-watering courses, we swirled and twirled across the dance floor, and
despite the crowded space at times, we even managed one of our jitterbug flips. We left with numerous party favors along with
photos of a memorable night.
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year filled with special moments and wonderful blessings!
