We could almost envision a gingerbread house through the trees as we looked for trails of bread left by Hansel and Gretel. Germany’s Black Forest with its dark woods, babbling brooks, and magical waterfalls brings fairy tales to life. Ken and I share a passion for hiking, and this area is certainly one of our favorite places to go for these excursions. Whether climbing a path up a steep mountain or walking along a lazy river, we leave both exhausted and energized at the same time. Knowing that days will shorten and temperatures will soon drop, we planned a weekend deep in the heart of this fairy tale setting, and my fairy godmother even conjured up some furniture for our rest time.
