It seems
that Ken and I often find ourselves in unusual or exotic locations around the
time of my May birthday. When that is
not the case, Ken leaps on the chance to plan a fun get-away for the two of
us. This year was no exception. We have wanted to take the ferry to Catalina
Island for some time. So when making the
decision of how to celebrate my birthday this year, we chose to sail off to
this small but charming destination, a place where golf carts and bicycles rule
the roads. Catalina rose to fame thanks
to its development by William Wrigley, Jr., and it remains a fantastic location
for outdoor activities both on and off land.
Our highlight came with an 11 mile hike that allowed for constant views
of the ocean, especially after our climb of 1600 feet. Although our legs ached a bit the next day,
the beauty which surrounded us during our hike made the pain completely
worthwhile. We also enjoyed the local
shops & restaurants, a tour of the lovely landmark casino, and a trip on
board the famous glass bottom boat. With
special birthday treats along the way, Catalina definitely received a gold star
from me!
