Hooroo Australia!

As our time draws to a close in Australia, I can’t help but reflect back on all of the adventures we crammed into the past few weeks and the memories made to take home as souvenirs.

While in Sydney, we saw “Madame Butterfly” at the Sydney Opera House, caught the sunrise and sunset over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and toured historical homes like the working class Suzanna Place terrace house as well as the colonial Elizabeth Bay mansion and the Victorian Government House. Within our charming little neighborhood of The Rocks, an area which holds Australia’s beginnings as a nation, we discovered favorite restaurants and shops including a German beer hall which made us feel as if we were eating in Germany rather than Australia due to authentic food and German waiters. The daily stunning view of the harbour and Harbour Bridge from our apartment window offered the icing on the cake.

We also spent some time in Melbourne, and although it didn’t hold the same charm for us as Sydney, we still had fun seeing and experiencing its famous sites. We took a spooky night tour of the Old Gaul prison which housed some of Melbourne’s most notorious criminals, visited the grand Victorian Rippon Lea Estate in the suburbs, played in the colorful “fall” leaves covering the Treasury Garden grounds, and gained more insight into Captain Cook’s world voyages at his childhood cottage transplanted from England.

Despite Ken’s busy work schedule (and crikey, what a busy time that was) we managed to seize the adventures and sights that fill this unique and fascinating country…and had a corker of a time! So good onya for sticking with us in this journey mate! Hooroo!
