On our way home from Australia, we decided to stop off for a few days in Singapore to see some of our dear friends who we met during our year in Switzerland. Although we had not seen Rahul, Radhika, and their son, Rohan, in about 3 years, we had no trouble picking up where we left off. In fact, Radhika and I laughed at ourselves often due to completely loosing track of time and missing appointments any instant we sat down and started chatting. I love friendships like that...so easy and full of wonderful conversation and laughter.

Rohan, who calls us Heidi Auntie & Ken Uncle, reminded us of our nieces and nephews back in Texas as he excitedly played with Ken or showed off his singing and dancing skills for us. Rohan taught us several new games which, despite the rules changing several times as we played and the boys ganging up on me, I managed to win. Rohan helped Ken improve his cricket skills, and Ken showed Rohan some new games to play in the pool.

A fun surprise came with a “full moon celebration” for the new daughter of another IMD classmate, Aaron. According to custom, after a month of confinement for the mother and new born baby, a party is held to introduce the child and celebrate the birth. We happened to find ourselves in Singapore on the day of the party, so we happily joined in the festivities for baby Adele.

Time with our IMD friends would not feel complete without a night out on the town. We began with dinner in a fun area of the city full of cafes and restaurants before making our way to a trendy spot with dazzling views of the city. When they finally kicked us out about 2:30am, we took the party to a very local food center serving an array of traditional Singaporean cuisine, apparently at all hours of the day. We ended the night with hugs and goodbyes taking sweet memories with us of an amazing night shared with treasured friends.

I have said more than once how much the year at IMD in Switzerland meant to us. Having friends across the globe allows the world to feel a bit smaller knowing that a friendly face is just around the corner. I truly cherish these people and the warmth they have added to my life.
